Neusiedl / Uiheiu
by Dr. Franz Metz
(translated by Diana Lambing)
The Catholic parish of Neusiedl is relatively young and was only established in 1844. In the beginning a small chapel was set up in the school building. The current church was built in 1931.
In 1869 the old chapel in Neusiedl received a small organ from the Diocesan Bishop Alexander Bonnaz. This had previously been in the church at Albrechtsflor (Kleintermin). In return, Albrechtsflor received a new instrument from the Bishop for a sum of 1,000 Forint. The organ in Neusiedel was tuned and set up in the summer of 1894 by the Temeswar organ builder, Carl Leopold Wegenstein, at a cost of 65 Forint. The cost was paid by way of general contributions.
This organ has a short octave, a new keyboard (installed by Wegenstein) and a new back. The two bellows are pulled by two leather straps. The organ casing was originally green, decorated with gold ornamentation. The decoration on the back is no longer all original.
